Missile launcher confiscated from traveller’s luggage

A man carrying a missile launcher in his luggage has had the weapon confiscated by US airport security officers.

The weapon, which was reportedly “not a live device” according to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers, was detected in the man’s checked bag on Tuesday at Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Baltimore.

ABC News reported the traveller, reportedly from Jacksonville in Texas, was detained for questioning by TSA officers, who contacted airport police after the missile launcher was found.

The man told officials he was in the military, coming home from Kuwait, and that he wanted to keep the weapon as a souvenir. Military weapons are not allowed in checked or carry-on bags.

The TSA said the missile launcher wasn’t live, but it had to be handed over to the state fire marshal for disposal, according to ABC News.

The detained man was then reportedly released and allowed to catch his flight home.

After detecting the device, the TSA posted on Twitter that the man “should have picked up a keychain instead”.
