Minor Hotel Group takes luxury to Malaysia

Minor Hotel Group (MHG) has announced its latest collaboration agreement with Destination Resorts & Hotels (DRH) to develop an Anantara resort in Malaysia.

Under the agreement, both parties will pick a suitable location to co-develop a luxury resort and residences, under the Anantara umbrella, mixing the brand’s style and service with Malaysian culture and architecture.

Established in 2010 by the Malaysian Government’s investment arm, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, DRH is required to transform Malaysia’s tourism landscape, and intends to do so with this commercially sustainable resort, among other projects.

MHG spans across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe, South America, Africa and the Indian Ocean, with over 120 hotels under its belt.

Minor International’s chairman and CEO William Heinecke said they are thrilled to kick off their first hotel investment in Malaysia.

“We believe there is a vast potential for growth in the tourism sector in this beautiful country,” he said. “And we look forward to working with DRH for many years to come on potential investments in Malaysia.”

Minor International’s Group COO and MHG’s CEO Dillip Rajakarier also commented on the collaboration agreement, saying they intend to have this resort showcase the best that Anantara and Malaysia have to offer.

“Following our first hotel management project in Malaysia undertaken in 2013, now operating as AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort, we are proud to announce our first investment plan in the country under our core luxury Anantara brand,” Rajakarier said.

DRH’s group managing director Tunku Dato’ Ahmad Burhanuddin also had something to say on the matter, noting that DRH’s strategic intent is to further Malaysia’s hospitality value positioning.

“The collaboration, coupled with Anantara’s management experience and renowned reputation, clearly deepens our breadth in the luxury destination segment,” he said.

“Our shared vision will serve the right trajectory that will appeal to sophisticated global tourists.”

Throughout 2015, MHG and DRH will make additional announcements, outlining fresh info on the development.
