Midweek Interview with Stuart Stacy

Midweek Interview with Stuart Stacy

Here’s your chance to get to know Stuart Stacy, the commercial director Pacific of travel intelligence firm ADARA.

The challenge for the industry is… Deriving context, actionable insights and value from the ever increasing sets of data available to businesses and marketers in todays multi touch world of big data.

The things I like about my job… Working in both travel and media I work across arguably two of the most dynamic and fast moving industries out there. In terms of fun, rewarding and fast paced careers, this really is the holy grail.

And the frustrations are… Hearing the answer to ‘client budget’ after reading the ‘client brief

If I didn’t work in travel I would be… Working on getting my golf handicap down.

Favourite airline? For domestic travel and where route network permits, Virgin Australia. For any of my long haul travel, Singapore Airlines. For marketing and innovation, Air New Zealand.

My proudest moment was… Very clichéd I know but the birth of my two children. Professionally, working outside of my comfort zone and taking opportunities to live, work and learn from other cultures and nationalities. It is very easy to stay comfortable but with the benefit of hindsight, living and working in India and Asia were two very rewarding times of my life.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… Also the most fun J

I try to relax by… A nice glass of whiskey, always on the rocks.

The last time I feared for my life was… I had a nasty accident around a year back when I fell from a roof breaking my back. I wouldn’t say I feared for my life but I certainly feared for my quality of life.

If I can, I always try to avoid… Rush hour.

I really wish I had… Longer legs, a smaller waist and more hair.

The best advice I’ve ever received was… It’s better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven’t. Not sure it was ever passed on to me as advice but I read it once and it resonated.

I don’t understand why people… Smoke. I am all for having vices in life but this one I just cannot understand..

My greatest weakness is… Small batch bourbon, closely followed in the last year by my lower back.

And my greatest strength is… Finding qualities in everyone, staying positive and attention to detail.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would… Invest in a few stocks I wish I had more money to invest in.

If I was prime minister I would… Cut the bullsh*t to create a transparent and accountable organisation, think longer term and chill with Obama before he leaves office.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a… Fireman. I am a volunteer with the Rural Fire Service and would love to see how it works as a day job.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… Tokyo. I have been fortunate to travel extensively but have never made it to Tokyo.

My favourite holiday was… Pre-kids, Pangkor Laut, an island off the North western coast of Malaysia. Post kids, a recent road trip in an RV through California.
