Midweek Interview with Oceania Cruises’ Steve McLaughlin

Midweek Interview with Oceania Cruises’ Steve McLaughlin

For this week’s Midweek Interview, we have a chinwag with Vice President of Sales at Oceania Cruises, Steve McLaughlin.

The challenge for the industry is…

Keeping pace with the ever broadening array of what our customers want. Who would have thought cruising would expand so rapidly and in such diverse directions.

The things I like about my job…

I am very much a people person – being able to share my enthusiasm for Oceania Cruises with the people I work with and meet is very satisfying.

And the frustrations are …

Like everyone else – not enough hours in a day!

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

Far less interesting …

Favourite airline?

Qantas

My proudest moment was…

Rescuing 2 Japanese tourists who couldn’t swim when our raft capsized in the freezing waters of the Shotover River in NZ.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

So funny that I can’t write it here – someone might die laughing.

I try to relax by…

Walking and massage (in that order)

The last time I feared for my life was…

Surrounded by Orangutans in the jungles of Borneo

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Traffic jams, busy times at airports

I really wish I had…

No mortgage

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

Enjoy what you do for a living – you spend a lot of time at work.

I don’t understand why people…

Ever have a “glass half empty” attitude.

My greatest weakness is…

Champagne (the rest is only bubbles)

And my greatest strength is…

The ability to share a good travel story

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Be kind to the very many people who have been kind to me

If I was prime minister I would…

Introduce marriage equality

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a…

Police officer – very interesting and varied.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Rome  – so I am going in November

My favourite holiday was…

A cruise to Antarctica
