Midweek Interview with Lindblad Expeditions’ Cherie Bowman

This week, we hit the slopes with Lindblad Expeditions’ industry account manager for NSW, QLD and New Zealand. Any by slopes, we mean the hill on the way to our local cafe. The photo was emailed to us.

The challenge for the industry is…

To ensure that we create a lasting positive impact on the destinations, communities and oceans that we visit.

The things I like about my job are…

Of course the travel opportunities; but more importantly, the ‘on the road family’ that I have built over the years and seeing the successes of my travel agency partners as they grow their knowledge and businesses.

And the frustrations are…

Traffic. In the 7+ years I have now been ‘on the road’, I have seen it go from bad to worse. Though it does just leave more time for Carpool Karaoke!

If I didn’t work in travel, I would be…

Likely still be working in my ‘original’ career path of marketing and public relations.

My favourite airline is…

The one that is taking me ‘home’ to Dallas, Texas!

My proudest moment was…

The first time I was nominated as ‘Best Sales Executive’ for the NITA’s. Oh, and the year I qualified for Contiki’s ‘Rock Around the World’ – which coincided with their 50th Anniversary. That was pretty damn cool.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

Sshh…I’m not telling you that!

I try to relax by…

Sipping on a latte preferably with a water or ocean view. Or binging on Netflix.

The last time I feared for my life was…

Snorkeling Hanauma Bay in Hawaii where I ended up being pushed under the water as a ‘human floatation device’ by another tourist.

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Rushing either to, at or from an airport.

I really wish I had…

The ability to teleport.

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

To always take my make-up off before bed.

I don’t understand why people…

Don’t recycle. Seriously. People. It is not hard.

My greatest weakness is…

Wine. White wine. Red wine. Champagne. I love it all.

And my greatest strength is…

I do love to deliver a great presentation.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

place a deposit on an investment property and more importantly, fund research to cure spinal cord injury; a cause that is close to my heart.

If I was Prime Minister, I would…

Probably ask for a vote re-count!

If I could be someone else for one day, I would be an…

Astronaut.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Currently high on the list is Africa, Sri Lanka and of course, a Lindblad Expeditions/National Geographic journey to one of the planets most exceptional places.

My favourite holiday was…

Do I have to pick one?! Top 3 (of late); Croatia, Japan and Morocco.
