Midweek Interview with Club Med’s Ally Solomou

This week, we welcomed Club Med newbie Ally Solomou to the industry with a quick coffee or five. Oh, and this interview.

The challenge for the industry is…

Keeping up with the technological advancements, and keeping ahead of the game.

The things I like about my job…

I get to work with an amazing group of people, as well as meeting and supporting the wonderful agents who are the backbone of the industry

And the frustrations are…

Not enough hours in the day to visit all the stores!

If I didn’t work in travel I would be…

A singer/dancer.

Favourite airline?

Virgin Australia. I’ve only ever had an amazing experience with them, they have a great network, and the frequent flyer program is great.

My proudest moment was…

My first solo trip, where I found out that I can be adaptable to situations. I haven’t looked back from solo travel since!

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

I don’t drink, so I don’t really have any naughty stories…but as the sober person in a group I remember all the things everyone else does!

I try to relax by…

Practicing Yoga, listening to music, and spending time with family.

The last time I feared for my life was…

When I was in Egypt last October – I was terribly sick on the last day of my trip, and stopped via Abu Dhabi, where I spent 2 days locked in my hotel room unable to move. The flight home to Sydney was the worst in my life!

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Negative people, and fresh tomato. I hate tomato.

I really wish I had…

The ability to teleport. I could fit in a lot more overseas weekend holidays this way!

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

“Whatever is good for your soul, do that.”

I don’t understand why people…

Get so angry when driving. It seems like such a waste of energy!

My greatest weakness is…

Animals. I’m defintiely going to be hit by a car one day trying to save a cat or a duck or something.

And my greatest strength is…

My passionate and caring nature.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Send my parents anywhere they wanted to go in the world, but even that won’t repay them for everything they’ve done for me.

If I was prime minister I would…

Try to engage young Australians. Make politics more accessible, and something they want to be involved in. At the end of the day, they are the future.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a…

Ballerina for the Bolshoi Ballet.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Peru – it’s now booked for this year!

My favourite holiday was…

The Caribbean – Jamaica, Haiti, Grand Cayman…all island paradises that I didn’t want to leave!
