Midweek Interview with Amilla Fushi’s Jason Kruse

This week, Travel Weekly tried to coax secrets out of Amilla Fushi’s general manager over a few wines, but we had a few too many ourselves and forgot them all.

The challenge for the industry is…

Ensuring that as an industry that we are protecting our local environment and making a positive contribution to the community.

The things I like about my job are…

Happy guests and a happy team.

And the frustrations are …

Things that I can’t control, like the weather.

If I didn’t work in travel, I would be…

Absolutely no idea.  Guess I had better stick with resorts.

My favourite airline is…

Manta Airways. Flying over stunning Maldivian Atolls and looking for eagle rays, turtles and mantas from above.

My proudest moment was…

Returning to the Maldives. It feels like coming home and I am blessed with such a role.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was…

This is not for public consumption.

I try to relax by…

Exercising, Yoga and being outdoors. Truth is, I am not that good at relaxing.

The last time I feared for my life was…

When I would not relax on my last day off with my wife.

If I can, I always try to avoid…

Carbohydrates and food and wine additives and preservatives.

The best advice I’ve ever received was…

If you are playing a game of cricket and the ball is guest service, you will never win if you are just looking at the scoreboard.

I don’t understand why people…

Choose a negative outlook.

My greatest weakness is…

My manic energy.

And my greatest strength is…

My manic energy.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would…

Still be doing what I am doing.

If I was prime minister, I would…

Depends on which country? But if it was Australia, would be looking to streamline the layers of government. And implement a policy that if a new law is proposed, one must be removed.

If I could be someone else for one day, I would be…

Donald Trump and then resign.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

Machu Picchu.

My favourite holiday was…

I was fortunate enough to have just finished a six-month sabbatical and pretty much travelled the world. Hard to get better than that.
