Midweek Interview: Eva Mezei, Digital Producer, Rezdy

The challenge for the industry… For us in travel tech the constant challenge is to always be one step ahead of competition and to keep innovating.

The things I like about my job… The best part of my job is meeting customers, learning about and documenting their journeys. We’re in the tour and activity industry, so I get to meet and interact with the most amazing people with inspiring stories. I also get to experience some of Australia’s best things to do, which has recently included escape rooms, craft beer tours, a French cooking class and a chocolate making lesson! It’s definitely not the worst job in the world!

And the frustrations are … That there are not enough hours in the day to turn all my ideas into reality.

If I didn’t work in travel I would be… Travelling for work.

Favourite airline? Etihad because it flies me to my hometown quicker than other airlines.

My proudest moment was… Coming to Australia and eventually making it on my own in the wild wild world.

The naughtiest thing I ever did was… I’m probably the least naughty person in the world. A few years ago I used a concession ticket on public transport for a couple of weeks, because I was trying to save money for something else. Eventually I got caught and fined and it was a very embarrassing peak hour moment.

I try to relax by… Binging on great TV shows or escaping to a cottage in the mountains with no phone or laptop. And as little human interaction as possible. Being by myself helps clear the mind.

The last time I feared for my life was… Every time I watch a scary movie (which I love by the way).

If I can, I always try to avoid… Bureaucracy.

I really wish I had…. been a little more daring in my early twenties.

The best advice I’ve ever received was… Always under-promise and over-deliver.

I don’t understand why people… Buy things they don’t need with money they don’t have to impress people they don’t like.

My greatest weakness is… Probably sleeping in.

And my greatest strength is… I live to work, not the other way around.

If I won a $1 million lottery (aside from travelling), I would… Donate it and forget about it. A million dollars is not much these days anyway (especially if you live in Sydney!)

If I was prime minister I would… probably suck.

If I could be someone else for one day I would be a… Game of Thrones character. I can’t decide which one though. Maybe Drogon.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… I don’t think there’s a destination I wouldn’t travel to. But these days I find myself drawn to Costa Rica because of beautiful toucan birds that I’ve been fascinated with since I was a little girl.

My favourite holiday was… Every family holiday I went on with my parents. We used to go to Croatia every year for a couple of months during school breaks and I used to spend my whole summer there. The smell of the sea and the pine trees, as well as the lively buzzing atmosphere of the small fishing town we holidayed will stay with me forever.
