Man charged after diving into aquarium at Sydney Zoo

A man has been charged with trespassing after he was filmed swimming in the aquarium at Sydney Zoo.

According to police, a 30-year-old man from Peakhurst entered the aquarium section of the zoo around 3pm last Monday, and dove into the water, despite warning signs.

TikTok user @richiechaalan11 uploaded footage of the man swimming in the aquarium.

Police used the video to identify the swimmer and he was issued a court attendance notice for “behave in offensive manner, enter inclosed non-agricultural lands interfere etc business, and open/enter/damage animal enclosure”.

Sydney Zoo told Travel Weekly it was appalled by the incident.

“The police have an active investigation and the matter has been referred to the RSPCA,” a spokesperson for the zoo said.
