Major delays at Melbourne airport after air traffic control tower evacuated

Melbourne, Australia - December 10, 2016: Melbourne airport check-in zone

All flights were suspended at Melbourne Airport this morning after a fire alarm caused the air traffic control tower to be evacuated.

Flights were grounded from around 9 am according to SMH, and inbound planes were unable to land.

Passengers got the all clear about an hour later, but a spokesperson told SMH passengers could expect further delays as the airport returned to schedule.

According to Tripple M, it is not believed there was a fire in the control tower.
