“Kilometres long!” Lengthy queues return to Sydney Airport

Just when Sydney Airport thought the worst was over, the long lines at the airport have returned due to closed security gates.

Both domestic and international have been impacted by the queues with thousands of passengers stuck in the queues.

Disgruntled airport goers have taken to social media to vent their frustrations. This is the third month since international borders have re-opened and the number of flights in and out of the airport has continuously increased.

This comes a month after there were long lines at the airport during the Easter long weekend and school holidays, which were blamed on staff shortages, COVID leave, and even lack of preparedness by travellers.

For three days in a row, people have reportedly had to wait up to two hours to get through security lines and check-ins which wrapped around the foyer and out the door.

The delays were originally predicted to peak around the time of the school holidays by a Sydney Airport representative, although this was not expected to live through to May.

One Twitter user said she “had never seen anything like this,” describing the queues as “kilometres long.”

Many travellers linked the long wait times to only a third of the security stations being open by 10:15am yesterday morning.

Many more took to Twitter to describe the long lines, with reports of up to 2.5 hours to get through security.

We can only hope that the issue is resolved soon!
