Hurtigruten’s SeaZero wins prestigious award
Edited by Travel Weekly

Hurtigruten’s SeaZero project has won the award for Best Concept Ship Design at the prestigious Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards 2024 at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Centre.

The first rendering of the project was released a year ago with a goal to create the world’s most energy-efficient ship. Announced in 2021, the project is currently in its research and development phase with collaborting partners such as the Norwegian research institute, SINTEF, and several other partners in the maritime industry.

“Over the years, we’ve seen sustainability increase as an important factor in guests’ travel consideration,” Hurtigruten managing director, Asia-Pacific, Damian Perry, said.

“SeaZero is only one element of a broad scope of sustainability initiatives across people, community and nature that benefit the traveller’s real-life experience on board and in Norway.”

Electric & Hybrid Marine Technology International magazine coordinated the awards, which were officiated by a panel of international journalists, consultants, and industry experts.

“While some of the technology we will use is mature, a lot of testing, development, and research is still needed in many areas to reach our goal. This award gives us extra motivation to continue this work,” Hurtigruten COO Gerry Larsson-Fedde said.
