In terms of airlines, Air France are leaders in the pet transport field, with a policy that allows you to bring up to three furry (or feathered) travellers along for no more than the cost of an extra suitcase. Thomas Cook is also kind to furry friends, with no maximum weight for pets on holiday either, and you can get them on board for just 15 euros (about $25 AUD) per dossier plus an excess baggage fee.
