Flight attendant quits after urination encounter

Think your job has its rough days? Think again. Because unless you’ve had someone threaten to pee on the floor, you’ve got it pretty good compared to this flight attendant.

No, we aren’t joking. The plane even turned around.

Because of this man who became “aggressive and abusive” because he forgot to pee before boarding. Said man’s name is Tabberner, according to news.com.au.

The flight was from Birmingham, England to Amsterdam, but was didn’t make it all the way to Amsterdam after Tabberner threatened to pee on the floor if he wasn’t given access to the bathroom.

Records from the Birmingham Magistrates Court state that Tabberner and a few “loud and rowdy” friends boarded the Flybe flight in early 2017. All was going smoothly until they were told to fasten their seatbelts for takeoff – which Tabberner took as the perfect time to go to the bathroom.

Robyn Pascoe, a flight attendant for Flybe, had just finished using the bathrooms with the captain’s permission, and said in court earlier this week that Tabberner threatened urination on the floor after she asked him to return to his seat and wait until the seatbelt sign was no longer on.

According to the Birmingham MailPascoe she felt terrified during the confrontation that followed.

“I went to the toilet but when I came out he was waiting trying to get in,” she said.

“I told him he had to go back to his seat as the seat belt signs were still on, but he kept saying, ‘You have been to the toilet, so why can’t I?’

“It was a confined area and he was waving his arms around aggressively and shouting. I felt terrified. I have experienced rowdy behaviour on flights before but nothing like this in seven years,” she added.

It was that rowdy behaviour that led her to quit her job after seven years as a flight attendant, and Pascoe claimed she suffered severe anxiety after the incident.

After Tabberner eventually returned to his seat, the plane was diverted back to Birmingham, after another flight attended informed the pilot of the situation. He and his friends were marched off the plane by the police.

In court this week, Tabberner told the judge that he was “dying to go to the toilet” and “literally bursting” immediately after stepping onto the plane – but wasn’t allowed to use the bathroom. He also said he was only “upset and confused”, and completely denied being aggressive.

However, the judge still deemed that Tabberner was at fault – and slapped him with a $2700 fine. Ouch.
