Demand drives Disney to add more river cruises

Adventures by Disney have had to increase departures before embarking on its inaugural European river cruise due to overwhelming demand.

Only a month after announcing it will take to the Danube river in 2016, Disney said bookings have been so well received it decided to expand its range of departures to add two new itineraries.

The new departures — Aug. 4 and Dec. 15, 2016 — are “due to the incredible success we’ve seen in the bookings for these cruises over the last month,” an Adventures by Disney spokeswoman told TravelPulse news.

The river cruises, to operate as part of a new partnership with AmaWaterways, is a new revenue stream for the company and will operate onboard the new 170-passenger AmaViola specifically built with families in mind.

The five sailings on the Danube River in summer 2016 will travel to Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary. Disney will also operate two holiday-themed sailings in December 2016 to include visits to popular Christmas markets along the Danube.
