Delta launches ‘Sweatlag’ program to help travellers combat jet lag

Delta Airlines has partnered with Equinox to create a post-flight workout plan, designed to beat jetlag.

Sounds a little different to our post-flight nap, which usually spans across two days.

According to a 2014 study cited by Delta and Equinox, the more physically fit you are, the less prone you are to jetlag.

Which is a stark realisation for us, since jetlag hits us so hard.

And those who exercise shortly after a flight are able to acclimatise much quicker to a new time zone.

The scientifically designed workout named ‘Sweatlag’ which was tailored to boost travellers’ energy, has been launched in conjunction with Delta’s new Airbus A350, which also consists of features to help curb jetlag.

The new features of the A350 include panoramic windows, blue LED lighting, and enhanced cabin pressurisation.

Delta and Equinox have also offered Los Angeles Delta customers free ‘Sweatlag’ sessions for a limited time.

Dana McCaw, Los Angeles-based creative manager of group fitness at Equinox, revealed details of the program in a statement.

“Each exercise is based on movement patterns we perform on the go (like carrying suitcases and placing your bags in the overhead bin) and ones we need to do as a result of our sedentary habits en route,” she said.

The workout is a mix of low and moderate intensities, as a high intensity workout would put too much stress on the body after flying.

Participating Equinox facilities in Los Angeles have been offering free Sweatlag classes for those who show their boarding pass or SkyMiles membership number, throughout July and early August.

And for those unable to attend a session, or who haven’t flown with Delta in that period, a series of free online videos with circuits have been uploaded to help cure jetlag wherever you are.
