Cruiseabout brings virtual cruise experience to train commuters

Cruiseabout is offering train commuters across Australia a virtual peek of  Voyager of the Seas, Carnival Spirit and Golden Princess from the comfort of their seat with an advertising take-over campaign in support of its new virtual reality experience.

Rolling out across key commuter routes in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, the advertising campaign includes displays on the backs of train seats, in the cabin and on the windows that encourages viewers to interact with the message via QR-enabled 360 degree video content viewed on their mobile phones.

It follows the launch of the innovative virtual reality technology to the Australian cruise market in February as part of an exclusive partnership between Cruiseabout and Royal Caribbean International, Carnival Cruise Line Australia and Princess Cruises.

National marketing manager Monique Van Gelder said the train take-over was “key” to capturing the attention of the new-to-cruise market.

“Cruise is hugely popular with Australian travellers, but there are still a lot of misconceptions about it from people who have never cruised before so it was important we showcase cruising in a new light through our virtual reality experience,” she said.

“Delivering the virtual cruise experience to commuters in this interactive method means we will get in front of people who have never considered a cruise before and hopefully change their mind after they discover the onboard experience for themselves through our 360 degree video.”

Cruiseabout expects the 10-week campaign to reach an audience in excess of 1.2 million commuters.

“It’s important to us that we can continue to educate the new-to-cruise market by being at the forefront of technology like virtual reality and we have the opportunity to reach a huge number of people with our message through this campaign,” Van Gelder said.

The campaign runs until May 22 and viewers have the option to experience virtual cruising aboard three ships – Voyager of the Seas, Carnival Spirit and Golden Princess – from their train seat via their mobile phones.
