Tasmania’s iconic Cradle Mountain is already one of the nation’s most popular photography targets, and now the state government hopes to cash in on some free publicity from visitors.

Tourism Tasmania has launched the #cradle365 project, encouraging people to share on Instagram their image of the central Tasmanian landmark using the hashtag.

And to make the task easier, there’s no need for a tripod or selfie stick, because rangers have erected a sign with a bracket for smartphones and cameras, perfectly aimed to capture the mountain and nearby lake.

Over the course of a year, the images will showcase the mountain through changing seasons, weather, lighting and natural phenomena.

Cradle Mountain was this week ranked ninth in a list of Australia’s most popular attractions to appear on Instagram.
