Losses top $340k from WA travel agency fiasco

More than 100 customers of a cash-strapped travel agency could have lost about $340,000, while some of them have been stranded overseas, Consumer Protection said last Friday.

Customers of Fremantle-based Sky Air Services were urged on Thursday to get in touch with Consumer Protection on the back of 10 initial complaints.

Since then, the government agency has been inundated with calls from customers regarding flights and accommodation for which Sky Air Services has not passed on payment.

Some customers have reported turning up at the airport to find their flights had either not been booked or had been cancelled due to non-payment.

Most are yet to travel, but 13 are in Europe with no confirmed return flight.

Meanwhile, a company operating in Melbourne and Sydney that is also called Sky Air Services has been copping abuse over the phone and on social media from people who have confused it with the Fremantle-based outfit.

The company allegedly took to Facebook last week to abuse customers in the aftermath.
