Colombia charms Intrepid agents

Earlier this month, Intrepid Travel treated a small group of travel agents to a trip around Colombia.

The lucky group flew courtesy of LATAM and were hosted by Intrepid BDM Cara Blyth.

The group kicked things off in Bogota, one of the biggest cities in the world at altitude, with over seven million people living 2640m above sea level.

Solento charmed everyone with its cobbled stone streets and colourful stalls and satisfied stomachs with its various trout dishes – a local speciality.

Cartagena’s UNESCO listed Old Town provided a history lesson on early Spanish settlement as well as a swim in the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea.

And although Medellin used to be one the world’s most dangerous cities thanks to Pablo Escobar’s infamous drug cartel, it has recently transformed itself into one of South America’s most exciting cities where the nightlife is particularly pulsating.

The highlight of the trip was a stay at a local coffee estancia in the highlands of Colombia’s famed coffee region. Here, the group learned firsthand about the ins and outs of the industry integral to the country’s economy, before sampling different coffee grains and making their own perfect cup of coffee.

One agent commented that she loved the local experiences: “the local guide was fantastic, eating like locals, travelling like locals and supporting the locals – these real life experiences are true to Intrepid and it was a whole new experience in travelling for me.”

Other agents took comfort and enjoyment from seeing just how safe the destination was for travelling in.

Intrepid’s ‘Café Colombia’ trip is eight days and is from $1875 per person. For more info, see www.intrepidtravel.com/ggss
