Cancelled flights: JetGo enters voluntary administration

JetGo has gone into voluntary administration, cancelling all its regular regional flights.

The regional commercial airliner, servicing cities across Australia including Wollongong, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Rockhampton, Townsville and Karratha, announced on Friday that all passenger transport services had been suspended, reports the ABC.

The news comes as Dubbo Regional Council lodged a request in the Supreme Court that the company be shut down over unpaid debts.

The council said in a statement it was owed more than $270,000 by the airline.

JetGo claims the council reneged on an agreement to waive taxes in an incentive agreement.

The airline also owed money to Shellharbour City Council, which owns the Illawarra Regional Airport.

The Illawarra region did not have a commercial air service until JetGo began local flights to Brisbane and Melbourne last year.

“We’ll continue to work with JetGo and other airlines to find a suitable service provider,” said Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba told the ABC.

In a statement, the airline said Qantas has set up a hotline number for the company’s passengers to assist with cancelled flights and other flight options: 1300 659 116.

“You may also consider contacting your credit card provider to consider your options with respect to a refund of your ticket purchase. If this action is unsuccessful, you are also creditors of the Company and are entitled to lodge a claim in the Administration of the Company,” the statement said.
