Pilots flying near Hawaii have been warned of a large white balloon in the area.

In a message to pilots, Honolulu controllers said the object was between 40,000ft – 50,000ft.

Using a system known as ACARS, which could be described as text messaging for pilots, crew aboard Delta Airlines Flight 837 asked to be kept informed of any sightings as it approached the Hawaii area.

The warning comes after numerous sightings across the United States made headlines, following the shooting down of a China owned balloon off the coast of South Carolina.
