Cycling-through-the-vineyards-of-Isteria-Croatia (low res)

On The Go Tours, the tour operator specialising in locally-led group tours and tailor-made holidays to worldwide destinations, have added a new Active Range to their collection of tours.

For travellers seeking a dynamic, off-the-beaten track adventure, the Active Range offers a mix of trekking, walking and cycling holidays in some of On The Go Tours’ most popular destinations; Jordan, Morocco, Nepal, Croatia, Africa and Turkey.

Whether it’s trekking to the Lost City of Petra in Jordan or cycling through the surreal landscapes of Cappadocia in Turkey, travellers will have a more immersive experience in their chosen destination. As well as a physical challenge, travellers are exposed to plenty of cultural experiences, local eateries and even wildlife encounters.

The accommodation reflects the nature of these tours from sleeping under the stars, staying at local guest houses, or checking-in to simple hotels. A good level of fitness is required, along with an adventurous spirit.

There are 24 tours, visiting 13 countries in the Active Range, starting from 8-day trips to longer 18-day journeys.

NEW LUXURY RAIL COLLECTION FROM INTERNATIONAL RAIL

International Rail will launch a new ‘Luxury Rail Collection’ program to its extensive product range, offering discerning rail enthusiasts a collection of the most upmarket rail holidays around the world.

Managing Director Jonathan Hume said the range was introduced to extend the popular rail booking service to a new market and demographic for IR’s agency partners and will be launched for agents on September 4, 2017.

He said, “These high value products offer the chance of greater profitability for our agency customers, with agents able to earn up to 12 per cent commission per booking.  Agents can be assured, as a long term dedicated rail partner for many agents, we are striving to offer the best available advice and booking service to help agents secure sales on these amazing trains”.

Throughout the year there will be regular agent incentives, excellent specials and product training available for agents.

Another motive behind this new range is enabling agents the chance to offer products which complement the booming market for cruising.

“We believe that the diverse range of rail journeys are perfect for agents looking for complementary products to the booming cruise market and are a great way to add new revenue opportunities to their businesses.”

Some of the most popular journeys include the Venice Simplon Orient Express in Europe, The Blue Train and Rovos Rail across Africa, The Maharaja Express and Palace on Wheels in India and the most commonly known one by Australians- The Rocky Mountaineer.

TravelManagers’ Continued Commitment to Product Training

VIC airline day16

TravelManagers has an ongoing commitment to provide product training to its personal travel managers (PTMs) and to facilitate strong supplier-PTM relationships.  To this end, the company’s National Partnership Office (NPO) has recently held airline training days in both Melbourne and Sydney, along with a river cruise training day in Brisbane.

Sharon Hando of Tauck River Cruises said the training days are very successful from a supplier point of view.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to speak to as many PTMs as possible, update them on our latest product offerings… and then get to know our industry partners better on a more informal basis when the work’s been done.”

The NPO strives to provide their PTMs with a format that is both informative and fun, balancing relatively fast-paced supplier presentations and a working lunch with networking opportunities before and after the training sessions as a way to strengthen PTM-supplier relationships in a more casual setting.

TravelManagers’ Executive General Manager, Michael Gazal, said the recent training days are part of a calendar of training events that are scheduled by the NPO at the start of each year and includes supplier training days such as these, destination days that are co-hosted by national or regional tourism offices, and fun events that bring together personal travel managers, NPO staff and suppliers in a relaxed environment.

“Without giving too much away, our next social event is taking place in five states this month and promises to be both great fun and a great networking event,” Gazal said.

TravelManagers’ Erin Ross, representative for Mount Cotton, attended the river cruise training day in Brisbane, and says she enjoyed the opportunity to update her product knowledge whilst catching up with colleagues at the same time.

“It’s important to me that I am providing my clients with the best possible advice when they’re planning their next trip: to do that, I need to ensure that my product knowledge is constantly updated,” she explains.

Another PTM who took part in the airline training days was Trish Clowes, representative for Traralgon VIC.  She says she found the length of each session to be just right and appreciated having material to take home for future reference.

“It was a really great day – great to have a variety of airlines covering multiple destinations including Asia and Europe, and the sessions were very interactive,” she explained.

Singapore: Inside Out is coming to Sydney this November

Singapore: Inside Out, a creative showcase featuring works by some of Singapore’s leading contemporary creative talents, will debut in Sydney in November.  An eclectic collective of Singapore’s contemporary art scene, Singapore: Inside Out aims to showcase to Sydneysiders another aspect of Singapore not usually seen or experienced by many visitors.

STB Oceania’s Executive Director of Oceania John Conceicao, said, “Singapore: Inside Out first started in 2015 as part of Singapore’s 50th anniversary celebrations, and managed to reach over 67,000 people in Beijing, London and New York, before returning to Singapore.

“The feedback we received from audiences was excellent, many remarking how they never knew how strong Singapore’s art scene was.  This encouraged us to develop the 2017 series, which was launched in Tokyo just last week, and will arrive in Sydney in November.”

Themed “Movement”, the Sydney showcase aims to reflect not only on the creative process which is made up of different movements, but also Singapore’s multi-cultural society, which has inspired diverse practices and is constantly challenging one’s perception of what is generally assumed to be ‘typically’ Singaporean.

Taking place from 3 to 5 November 2017, Singapore: Inside Out Sydney will be held at various locations along Kensington Street including the Old Clare Hotel, within the Chippendale Creative Precinct.

Featuring not only artworks but also collaborations by twenty Singaporean and Australian creative talents, visitors can experience various disciplines such as both visual and performing arts, photography, design and music.

MACAO FIREWORKS CHALLENGE CANCELLED

For the first time in its illustrious 29-year history, the upcoming Macao International Fireworks Display Contest has been cancelled, one of many victims of the chaos generated by furious Typhoon Hato.

The contest was set to begin this Saturday (Sep 2) with a team from Perth – Cardile Fireworks – to kick off the month-long challenge as Australia’s representative team.

But sadly, due to the widespread damage caused by the typhoon and as a mark of respect to those killed and injured in the massive storm, the event was cancelled.

Meanwhile, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is making unreserved efforts to coordinate and handle various tasks in the wake of the typhoon, which took the lives of six, injured more than 150 and left the city with widespread damage.

With wind gusts of up to 240km/h compounded by severe tidal conditions, the former Portuguese enclave felt the full fury of the typhoon, the most severe storm to hit the city in more than five decades.

The high tide created massive flooding in low-lying areas, causing a city-wide blackout, water supply stoppages and telecommunication breakdowns. The disaster relief authorities reported 290 incidents caused by the typhoon, such as falling trees, antenna cables and advertising boards.

Since a number of districts in Macao and the islands are currently under cleaning and restoration work, the MGTO urges cooperation to minimise visits to the affected districts so that restoration work can be carried out smoothly.

It was the first time since 1999 that Macau had hoisted the No. 10 signal, the highest typhoon warning signal, officials said.

MGTO operates its tourist information counters at the Ritz Building, Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, Border Gate, Macau International Airport and Taipa Ferry Terminal as usual to attend to visitors.

Due to various degrees of damage at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and Taipa Ferry Terminal, tour groups to Macao were affected.

Your excursion begins with a visit to a banana and durian plantation. After sampling the delicious chips produced here, join your guide – an expert naturalist –  on a walk up the hill, learning about the local area as you go.
