Aurora Expeditions cancels upcoming Russia voyages

Aurora Expeditions has confirmed that it will make changes to its upcoming voyages that include Russian itineraries in light of the invasion of Ukraine.

The team at Aurora is now reviewing its deployment in the region and will advise travel partners and guests of those changes in the near future.

During this time, the cruise line will continue to offer our flexible policies to accommodate for these evolving conditions.

Any booked guests and trade partners of affected sailings will receive updates and specific details applicable to their booking, which will be available shortly.

Aurora joins the swathes of travel operators sanctioning Russia, with news breaking last week that Airbus and Boeing had withdrawn support from Russia, confirming that they were both suspending all parts, maintenance and technical support for planes in Russia.

Russian airline Aeroflot, which uses many Airbus Jets, has had its support withdrawn from the French planemaker.

But it’s not just the plane manufacturers that have impacted Aeroflot, as the travel booking software provider, Sabre Corp, announced it terminated its distribution agreement with the Russian airline, impacting the carrier’s ability to sell tickets.

Sabre also announced it has donated USD$1 million (AUD$1,357,225) to the Polish Red Cross for Ukrainians seeking refuge in Poland.

Spanish travel tech company, Amadeus, also suspended the distribution of Aeroflot’s fares in its system and said it stopped new commercial projects in Russia.

Global distribution system providers, such as Amadeus and Sabre, use software networks to distribute airline tickets.

Intrepid Travel and G Adventures are also among the many travel companies to cancel trips to Russia.
