“An extremely positive sign”: Westin Hotels & Resorts to debut in Margaret River

A new-build Westin is set to debut in Western Australia’s stunning Margaret River by mid-2023.

Marriott International has signed agreements with Saracen Properties and Security Capital Australia – two of Western Australia’s leading property developers and investors – to debut Westin Hotels & Resorts in Margaret River.

The Westin Margaret River Resort & Spa is a joint development, with the vision to be brought to life by architects Christou Design Group, whose low-impact design, Marriot said, will complement one of Western Australia’s truly iconic coastal locations.

Located on the southern headland of Gnarabup Beach, the property is expected to feature 120 guestrooms, including 45 spacious suites with sweeping views of the Indian Ocean, and direct access to the Cape to Cape walking trail.

The new property will feature a variety of culinary options, including an all-day dining restaurant, a lobby lounge and a pool bar.

Guests will also be able to enjoy an extensive range of leisure facilities, including the brand’s signature Westin WORKOUT fitness studio, a resort-style outdoor swimming pool and the Heavenly Spa by Westin.

In addition to the health club, Run Westin program will be in place to take guests on a scenic run along numerous trails in the Margaret River region and the unspoilt strip of golden sand.

The hotel will also boast more than 400 square meters of meeting and event space with pre-function area and a separate entrance.

According to Marriott, the project will immediately create local opportunities, with more than 300 jobs on and off site during construction.

Once the Westin Margaret River Resort and Spa is operational, the property is expected to generate over 100 hotel jobs and provide ongoing benefit to local service providers through sourcing of premium local produce.

The 120 keys new-build resort is expected be completed by mid-2023, and will join the Westin brand’s portfolio in Australia.

Premier Mark McGowan said his government was delighted Marriott and the WA companies involved in the process were committed to Western Australia.

“This announcement is an extremely positive sign for WA tourism,” he said.

“The project will create construction jobs during the build. It will also support ongoing jobs once the resort is in operation.

“Having a first five-star resort in Margaret River will attract more visitors to the South West and will boost the local economy.

“While COVID-19 has had serious impacts on tourism right around the world and here in WA, this project demonstrates long-term confidence in Margaret River and Western Australia as world-class destinations.”

The Australian Hotels Association’s WA chief executive, Bradley Woods, welcomed the hotel as a “significant investment” for the state’s accommodation industry and one that “demonstrates long term confidence” in the growth of WA’s hotel sector.

“Prior to COVID-19, WA had strong visitation growth that was the envy of the country,” he said.

“We know that when international and interstate travel resumes, WA will be in a strong position for the industry to recover, and today’s announcement by Marriott International reflects that confidence.

“For Western Australia, Margaret River is a key destination for international, interstate and intrastate travellers so for the area to soon have its first five-star resort will add a significant new drawcard for the area.

“The resort will create both jobs in the short term during the construction phase, but most importantly it will support long-term career opportunities and help grow the regional economy more broadly.

“The road to recovery in a post-COVID world looks even more positive with the confirmation of Marriott International’s commitment to Western Australia and our state’s tourism and hospitality industry.”
