Alaska Airlines has introduced a new subscription service that promises cheaper flights for members.

Portland, Oregon, USA - December 22, 2020: An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 landing at Portland International Airport at dusk.

In a world where subscription services continue to soar, Alaska Airlines is getting on board with the launch of its new Flight Pass.

According to Alaska Airlines’ website, with a one-year commitment, you will receive credits deposited into your account monthly or bi-monthly. You can then redeem the credits for roundtrip tickets. However, the credits do expire.

As Condé Nast Traveler reports, the new subscription service offers prepaying discounts for airfare on Alaska Airlines’ extensive California routes, as well as those to nearby Reno, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.

Managing director of business development and products, Alex Corey, tells Condé Nast Traveler:

“Flight Pass builds on our mission to offer travelers the most west coast destinations at the best value.

“After two years of staying close to home, guests are ready to travel again and with 100 daily flights from 16 airports… Flight Pass will take them there.”

Users can choose between two tiers – Flight Pass, and Flight Pass Pro, starting at US$49 a month, and US$199 a month respectively.

Alaska Airlines’ California regional vice president, Neil Thwaites, said to Condé Nast Traveler

“Flight Pass will provide more options, value, and care with every trip that our guests book, while also transforming the travel experience long-term.”

Ultimately, by offering flexibility and value the new offering aims to incentivise west coast travellers to take to the skies with a renewed sense of gusto.
