Travel management company Carlson Wagonlit have revealed in a recent survey that travel planners are largely against the policy of unmanaged travel, an approach that allows corporate travellers to book through any channel in a bid to increase traveller satisfaction.

The findings of the survey showed that a mere 9% were in favour of unmanaged travel, while 62% of respondents were against the idea. Some 87% of respondents claimed that their company had not tried unmanaged travel and had no intention of trying it.

Additional findings, via three independent reports, showed that fares booked through travel management company channels eased cost leakage and would save between 9% and 24% on fares listed on the open market.

"We do expect to see consumer trends continuing to influence corporate traveller behavior and expectations, with a clear emphasis on increasing traveller choice," CWT executive vice president, enterprise, strategy and marketing, David Moran said.

"However, recent feedback from our customers has shown that while this migration towards increased choice is steadily taking place, todays solutions are not yet robust enough to allow them to relax their booking channel policy," he added.
