The top 10 hotels in the world based on the reviews and opinions of global TripAdvisor travellers have been revealed.

The top ranked properties ranged from beachside locations in the Maldives to high-altitude spots in Ecuador, although none were in Australia.

Globally, 7,123 unique properties won 2014 Travellers Choice Awards – we list the top 10 below.

Also listed are the winners in each accommodation category – from high luxury to more modest B&Bs.
