Tourism Fiji has unveiled details of its inaugural Fijian Tourism Expo (FTE) which takes place at the Sheraton Convention Centre on Denarau next May.

The event has been scheduled just three weeks before Bula Fiji Tourism Exchange (BFTE) in a move that has split Fiji’s tourism industry.

Tourism Fiji launched its own trade show amid fundamental disagreements with organisers of BFTE over how the latter hould be structured.

The inclusion of Fiji’s neighbouring Pacific islands at BFTE was the major sticking point with costs also an issue for tourism officials.

Tourism Fiji chief executive Rick Hamilton claimed its new event has received “great support” from the Fijian industry and offshore sellers who, he said, are “incredible enthusiastic about a show designed specifically for the Fijian industry”.

Along with tourism companies who will sit in the main exhibition space, FTE will invite makers of Fijian products, craft, food and beverages to showcase their wares in a secondary ‘trade’ expo area.

Exhibitor prices for tourism operators range from $1500 for a 2×2 booth and one delegate to $5000 for a 6×3 booth and four delegates.

Trade exhibitor booths cost from $1000.

Buyers meanwhile we be charged $795 that will include four nights’ accommodation, airport transfers, evening functions and meals.

“This is a milestone day for us,” Hamilton said. “We are presenting specifics of our event to the industry and this will allow exhibitors, buyers and media to plan their attendance at Fijian Tourism Expo with confidence that this will be a stand-out event for our Fijian tourism industry.
