Intercontinental Hotels Group and Crowne Plaza Norwest Sydney have paid tribute to the hotel's managing director and co-owner, Minhas Zulfiqar, who was tragically killed in Pakistan on Wednesday.

Zulfiqar was reportedly shot dead at an ATM after resisting a robbery. The event is being looked into by the local authorities, the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade and the Australian High Commission.

In a joint statement, IHG and Crowne Plaza Norwest Sydney described Zulfiqar as a "generous and well-loved member of the local community".

"In particular, Minhas' dedication to philanthropy has made him a highly respected individual, recognised by his peers from the travel and tourism industry and the people he worked with," they said.

Zulfiqar had been involved in the ownership and management of the property for more than a decade, guiding it to win the award for Australia's Best Midscale Hotel by Tourism Accommodation Australia last year.

"He will be very much missed and remembered by those whose lives he had touched," the statement said.
