Royal Caribbean vows to provide wow factor

Passengers should expect to be "wowed" by Royal Caribbean's new class of ship when they enter service next year, a senior executive has said.

Lisa Bauer, the cruise line's global sales and marketing chief, declined to reveal any details of the onboard product but insisted the newly-named Quantum of the Seas, the first of the Quantum class of ships, "will live up to its name".

Royal Caribbean last week revealed the names of the two 167,000-tonne ‘Project Sunshine' vessels that will enter service over the next two years.

Quantum of the Seas will debut in the northern hemisphere autumn in 2014 with Anthem of the Seas following six months later.

Bauer said the product remains a closely guarded secret.

"What I would say is that people should be prepared to be wowed," she told Travel Today. "The Quantum class ships will live up to its name".

The prospect of a ski slope as one of the onboard features has been suggested. Bauer declined to confirm or deny any plans.

More details of the product is expected to be released soon.

Meanwhile, Bauer said infrastructure issues need addressing in Australia but said it was a global problem and not limited to Australasia.

Anything compared with "China speed" is slow, she added, with the industry facing issues in Europe and South America.

"The challenge of infrastructure is pretty global," Bauer said.

But when pressed, Bauer said it was a "fair statement" that Australia has moved far slower than other ports in Asia Pacific.

"It's just a process that has to be gone through but we do wish Australia would move a little quicker," she said.
