Emirates has appointed Rob Gurney as its divisional vice president, commercial operations, Australasia, effective 1 October.

Gurney will be based in Emirates' Sydney office and will take over the role currently held by Bryan Branston, who reportedly has elected to leave the company on October 10.

“I thank Bryan for his sterling contribution as he passes the ‘baton’ to Rob with Emirates in excellent shape in the South Pacific,” Emirates divisional senior vice president, commercial operations East, Barry Brown said.

Gurney was most recently CEO of Helloworld, but prior to joining the agency group, held a senior executive role at Qantas.

Gurney will be responsible for Emirates’ operations within "one of it's top three regions in terms of revenue and passenger traffic and manage the key areas of Australia and New Zealand and will also assume local responsibility for Emirates’ partnership with Qantas," the airline stated.
