QantasLink upgrades to business

Regional carrier QantasLink will introduce business class to its fleet as it upgrades the interiors of five Boeing 717 aircraft.

The additional five aircraft, announced by Qantas in January, will join the existing fleet of 13 B717 aircraft.

QantasLink executive manager John Gissing said the new business class will feature “market-leading seats, premium food and drinks and exceptional on board service.”

He also confirmed the airline is currently testing technology in order to provide inflight entertainment in both economy and business.

“The continued investment in our fleet shows the commitment and confidence that we have in the Australian domestic market and regional Australia,” he said.

The five aircraft will be phased into service from late 2013 for initial deployment on Sydney-Canberra, Brisbane-Canberra and Melbourne-Canberra.

Cobham, which currently operates QantasLink’s B717 fleet, will operate the additional five aircraft.
