Qantas marketing exceutive manager Lewis Pullen will depart the airline after three years, with head of corporate and government affairs, Olivia Wirth, to expand her role.

In an announcement to staff, chief executive Alan Joyce confirmed Pullen's role was being made redundant as he asked Olivia Wirth to become group executive brand, marketing and corporate affairs with group-wide responsibility.

Pullen will leave the airline in June after a three year stint.

"We thank him for his contribution amd wish him the best for the future," Joyce said.

Meanwhile, new head of marketing positions will be created for Qantas Domestic and Qantas International to report to Wirth, along with the chief marketing officer for Qantas Loyalty.

"Under Olivia's leadership, we will have a powerful and integrated marketing and communications capability," Joyce said. "We will be far better placed to tell our story and promote our brand at the group level."

Strategic and government partnerships will be "vitally important" for the airline going forward, Joyce continued as he announced the appointment of Andrew Parker, formerly of Emirates, to the newly created role of group executive, government and international affairs.

He will take up the position in July, reporting directly to Joyce.

"I believe these changes will help us better position and strengthen the Qantas brand," he said. " We'll be able to know our customers better, market and communicate our stories more effectively, and help us strengthen vital government partnerships for success."
