Qantas retains spot as most punctual airline
By admin

Qantas retained its spot as Australia’s most punctual airline in July but the average performance of all routes was the poorest for the industry since records began.

The cancellation rate of two out of every hundred flights was also the worse than the long term average of 1.3%

The Alice Springs to Melbourne route fared the worst with less than 41% of services departing on schedule while only 35% of flights between Proserpine and Brisbane arrived on time, the poorest performance in the country.

Of the major carriers, Qantas topped the reliability stakes with 83% of flights taking off on time, followed by Virgin with 77%, Jetstar 74% and Tigerair 67%.

Regional airlines were led by Regional Express with passengers leaving on time 84.5% of the time with Qantaslink second with 77% and Virgin Australia Regional Airlines 74%.

When it came to arriving on schedule, 82% of Qantas flights touched down when they were due, followed by Virgin Australia at 75%, Jetstar 74.5% and Tigerair 60.5%.

While Tigerair has the poorest departure and arrival performance it fared better than most of its competitors for cancellations, although it flew far fewer sectors.

Qantaslink had the highest cancellation rate with 3.3% of services remaining on the ground. Jetstar was next with 2.1% while Virgin Australia grounded 1.8% of services and Tigerair and Regional Express 1.6%.

Only 1.3% of Qantas flights failed to take off.

The route with the highest cancellation rate was Moranbah to Brisbane with 9.5% of flights failing to leave the ground.
