Qantas will add two additional return services between Sydney and Santiago and extend four return services between Santiago to Rio de Janeiro to cater for demand during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

It’s exciting news for soccer fans who are waitlisted on services to Rio, according to Qantas International chief executive Simon Hickey.

“As the official airline of the Socceroos, we are pleased to offer fans the opportunity to travel with Qantas all the way through to Rio in June and support the Socceroos as they take on the world,” he said.

“South America is an important market for Qantas and the extension of our services to Rio during the World Cup means more convenience for our customers.”

The airline currently operates three return services per week and codeshares on LAN’s daily services.
