PM to name Badgery's Creek as airport site
By admin

The Government is expected to name Badgery's Creek as the preferred site for Sydney's second airport early in the new year, it has emerged.

According to reports in today’s Daily Telegraph, Prime Minister Tony Abbott told MP’s in constituencies near Badgery’s Creek to start consulting with residents ahead of the formal green light in February.

Reports quoted Coalition sources confirming that the PM raised the issue on Tuesday at a joint Coalition party room meeting.

“He told those MPs, those in western Sydney, that they should spend the break talking to people in the community about it,” the source told the Daily Telegraph.

“It was about starting to prepare the community for a decision to be made early in the new year.”

Deputy prime minister Warren Truss hinted back in October that Badgery’s Creek would get the nod.

Truss rejected the Richmond Air Force base as a credible location, describing it as too small, and hinted that Badgery’s Creek could be the preferred option.

Badgery’s Creek was chosen as the best site a decade ago, is government owned and “remains a strong contender”, he said.
