More operators cancel Egypt tours

More operators cancel Egypt tours
By admin

Intrepid, Peregrine and Geckos have become the latest operators to cancel tours to Egypt, while Tempo Holidays has warned its clients to reconsider their need to travel to the crisis-hit nation.

The adventure travel firms have scrapped departures up to and including September 30 with all passengers either offered a full refund on ground trips or the option to book a different tour without incurring amendment charges.

Intrepid said that while it hoped to operate tours in October, passengers concerned about travelling will be offered tours to alternate destinations.

“This situation is devastating for Egypt and is deeply affecting the lives of many local operators,” Intrepid managing director James Thornton said.

Tempo, meanwhile, will offer a full refund to customers due to arrive in Egypt before September 30.

The wholesaler has also advised its clients due to arrive in Egypt over the next week to follow Government advice and reconsider their need to travel.

Tourist sites around the country are being closed for indefinite periods, Tempo secretary Nigel Loveday added.

“We understand that as a result of the security forces attempts to break up demonstrations, violence has occurred in certain areas,” he said. “This has resulted in tourist sites around the country being closed by the government for an indefinite period as a precaution. There is also a night curfew in force from 7am to 6pm.

“With these factors in mind, we are not confident that our local travel agents will be in a position to best deliver a complete range of services to fulfil clients’ itineraries.”

Tempo said it “understands” that clients already in Egypt are safe and will be offered help in leaving the country as soon as practical.

Bunnik Tours yesterday said it has cancelled tours up to September 10.
