Alliance partners Virgin Australia and Delta Air Lines will expand their codeshare network to Mexico in an agreement that will enable Australians to travel to six Mexican cities on a single ticket.

The destinations covered under the new deal are Mexico City, Cancun, Guadalajara, San Jose Del Cabo, Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel. Delta operates to all six cities from Los Angeles.

The airlines said the extended codeshare agreement is in line with the strategy of strengthening its alliance.

It brings Virgin’s number of codeshare and interline destinations to more than 180.

“Our international network continues to expand and we now offer Australians the ability to fly to more than 400 destinations around the world,” chief commercial officer Judith Crompton said.

“We continue to work with our partners to ensure we offer an international network that meets the needs of our customers.”

Delta general manager for Australia, Philippines and Manila, Steven Crowdey, described the Mexico codeshare as “yet another important step forward in the development of our alliance with Virgin Australia”.
