Sydney, Australia has welcomed ‘Matilda The Musical’ at a launch event in Sydney where composer and lyricist Tim Minchin performed two numbers from the performance.

In attendance were the NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Andrew Stoner, Destination NSW’s CEO, Sandra Chipchase and representatives from The Royal Shakespeare Company.

NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Andrew said, “This Australian premiere season of Matilda The Musical will give visitors yet another reason to experience, Sydney, Australia’s global city, and I encourage everyone to make sure they book tickets well in advance so they don’t miss out on the opportunity to see this fantastic production at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre.”

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase shared in the excitement of Matilda and the potential it hosts in boosting tourism numbers in Sydney.

“It is estimated that the Australian premiere season of Matilda The Musical in Sydney will generate over $35 million in total visitor spend for NSW… more than 110,000 intrastate, interstate and international visitors are expected to visit Sydney to see this Australian premiere.”
