Macau Government Tourist Office hosted a gala dinner for agents, wholesalers and media last night at Luna Park's Crystal Palace.

Australian visitors to Macau numbered 110,000 in 2013 with an increase of more than one percent in the first quarter of 2014. This makes the Australian inbound market the twelfth biggest inbound market and is the second biggest long haul market.

"Macau's landscape is rapidly expanding and transforming with new hotels, theme parks, shops and restaurants," Macau Government Tourist Office Australia general manager Helen Wong said.

High profile developments taking place in Macau include the Palazzo Versace hotel, a karl Lagerfield designed hotel and the Parisians, home to a smaller version of Paris' Eiffel Tower.

"The changes are very apparent," Wong said.

Construction continues on the Hong Kong-Zuhai-Macau bridge which will provide another way to reach Macau when open in 2016.

The event opened with a light show in a nod to Sydney's current Vivid festival. The evening was themed around Macau's entertainment offering, with dance and carnival performances.

Guests were served Macanese cuisine such as Macanese African Chicken, salt cod fritters, saw dust pudding and to finish it off, the renowned Macanese tart.
