Floods wreak havoc as agencies close

A number of Travelscene American Express agents have been hit by the severe weather in New South Wales and Queensland with shops flooded, phone lines cut and roads closed.

The agency said Travelscene at Barolin Travel in Bundaberg will be closed "for some time" after being flooded while Fairfield Travel in Brisbane is closed and "waiting on the high tide".

Travel Crew in Rockhampton has been shut since Friday and has intermittent power, mobile and internet coverage.

Travelscene said phone and internet access has also been "challenging" for Travelling Places in North Tambourine and Travelscene Lismore while Grafton Travel Agency has evacuated its office with staff working from home.

General manager David Padman said it was trying to assist its members where possible.

"The combination of extensive planning at a member level coupled with support from Travelscene American Express has successfully allowed us and our members to implement alternative arrangements," he said.

"At this stage the worst of the impact ranges from flooded offices through to loss of phones and internet and closed roads.

"Our thoughts are with all those coping with floods and we will continue to work closely with our members to minimise disruptions for their clients as we work together to restore business as usual."
