Fiji Airways boosts ANZ capacity

Fiji Airways has increased capacity to key Australian and New Zealand markets with immediate effect as it welcomed a new ATR72 aircraft to its fleet.

The new aircraft, to be used by its subsidiary Fiji Link, has made its B737 aircraft available to operate more sectors to Australia and New Zealand.

The airline has added two weekly services between Nadi and Melbourne taking it to daily. It has also bolstered its Nadi-Auckland services so it now flies 11 times a week between the two destinations.

Additional frequencies will be added during peak periods to Sydney and Christchurch as well.

The boost was always the airline’s intention, according to managing director and chief executive Stefan Pichler.

“The increase in capacity to our tourist source markets is good news for us as Fiji’s national airline group and for Fiji’s tourism industry,” he said.

“We note with satisfaction that the department of immigration has reported rising visitor numbers from our major inbound markets.”

The government figures revealed a 9.6% increase in Australian visitor arrivals in April compared with the same month last year.

Fiji Airways will also start direct services between Nadi and Honiara in the Solomon Islands from July 5.
