Brazilians avoid World Cup chaos

Brazilians avoid World Cup chaos
By admin

While football fanatics from across the globe are flocking to Brazil in droves, locals are taking the opportunity to get away from the World Cup crowds.

The top getaway spot for Brazilians is Campos do Jord√£o, which jumped from fifth most popular in 2013 to favourite in 2014.

Hotel search website Trivago analysed Brazilian travel interest in the June/July holiday period, and noticed that last year’s domestic favourites Rio de Janeiro and Fortaleza have dropped in popularity, with the decline attributed to World Cup chaos.

Brazilians are seeking out destinations with fewer tourists, with only two of the tournament's host cities cracking the top five destinations for travel in 2014.

Campos do Jord√£o is a two and a half hour drive from S√£o Paulo and a four and a half hour drive from Rio, with hiking, mountain biking, and even the occasional snowfall making this village the ideal escape for locals during World Cup season.

The cost is markedly less in these secret holiday spots too, with hotels in Campos do Jord√£o charging only $181 per night, considerably less than the $307 it would cost in Rio de Janeiro.
