Boeing has launched the third member of the 787 family, the 787-10 Dreamliner, confirming commitments for 102 aircraft have already been received.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and chief executive, Ray Conner, described the new model as the "most efficient jetliner in history".

"The aircraft's operating economics are unmatched and it has all the incredible passenger-pleasing features that set the 787 family apart as truly special," he said.

"The 787-10 is 25% more efficient than any aircraft of its size today and more than 10% better than anything being offered by the competition for the future."

Design of the aircraft is now underway with international partners to be consulted on the details in the months ahead. Final assembly and flight tests will take begin in 2017 with the first delivery expected in 2018.

To date, customer launch commitments have been received from Air Lease Corporation, GE Capital Aviation, International Airlines Group, Singapore Airlines and United Airlines.
