Boeing completes 787 testing

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has completed testing of the Dreamliner's revised battery system, thereby fulfilling the requirements set out by the US aviation regulator.

On Friday, Boeing completed a one hour 49 minute certification demonstration flight using a 787 aircraft built for LOT Polish Airlines.

The flight was intended to prove the reliability of the new battery system which was devised after a series of battery malfunctions at the start of the year prompted the Dreamliner's global grounding.

The aircraft's crew reported the flight as "straightforward" and "uneventful".

A statement said: "Boeing will now gather and analyse the data and submit the required materials to the Federal Aviation Administration. We expect to deliver all of the materials to the FAA in the coming days. Once we deliver the materials, we stand ready to reply to additional requests and continue in dialogue with the FAA to ensure we have met all of their expectations."

Qantas expects its first 787 to be delivered in August.
