Katoomba is famous for its Three Sisters, but the picturesque outcrop will be overshadowed by a different trio today.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit the NSW Blue Mountains with baby George where they will meet tourism heads and indigenous leaders at the Echo Point lookout.

Earlier in the day, the royal couple will meet with residents of Winmalee, a nearby town badly affected by 2013 bushfires.

Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill said there is “great excitement” among townspeople who are keen to get a glimpse of Prince William and Princess Kate.

He also hopes the media attention will show that the region is open for business.

“The economy has not recovered from the fires and we need to attract visitors back to the mountains … this coverage will bring people back,” Greenhill told AAP.

Blue Mountains Lithgow and Oberon Tourism chief executive Randall Walker said he was delighted to welcome the royal couple and the world's media, especially after challenging times.

“To be able to raise awareness of the destination in such a high profile and positive way is a fabulous outcome for tourism

The royals arrived in Sydney from New Zealand yesterday.
