Australian arrivals to Canada fell almost 2% in February while Kiwi numbers showed a slight increase, latest figures have revealed.

Just over 11,260 Australians travelled to Canada, taking the total for the first two months of 2014 to 29,437, a rise of 3% on last year.

The growth followed a strong showing in January when arrivals climbed more than 6% to 18,000.

Meanwhile, New Zealand arrivals grew 1.25% in February to 1,866, following an impressive 14% lift in January. It took the 2014 total to 4,458, up 8%.

Total international arrivals in February jumped just over 1% to almost 219,000 with the 2014 aggregate climbing 6% to 448,000.

The Canadian Tourism Commission will be hoping to beat last year’s Australian arrivals which hit 264,000, a 2.36% increase over 2012.
