Aussie celeb fronts Wellington social media push

The presenter of Australian TV show The Voice, Glasgow-born Darren McMullen, is fronting a new social media campaign designed to lure Australians to New Zealand capital Wellington.

As part of the Wellington Has Things push, McMullen will assist Positively Wellington Tourism to disperse a variety of Australian-held misconceptions about the city, such as the length of time to get there.

“It is so quick… three hours. Can’t even bust out a Lord of the Rings movie in that time,” McMullen quips in the YouTube video.

The film is designed to highlight Wellington’s proximity to Australia’s major cities, according to Positively Wellington Tourism chief executive David Perk.

Wellington prices itself on doing things a little differently and we wanted to buck the trend of traditional tourism films by adding a touch of fun,” he said.

“Darren’s sense of humour was a perfect fit – he really got what Wellington is about.”
