The Australian Federation of Travel Agents is forging ahead with its implementation of its ATAS accreditation scheme, unveiling its new television advertisement at the National Travel Industry Awards on Saturday night.

The TVC is a key component of its consumer marketing push, designed to encourage consumers to book travel through an ATAS-accredited travel agent by creating awareness of the ATAS brand and its benefits.

Opening the awards event, AFTA chief executive Jayson Westbury heralded the “new travel market in Australia”, following ATAS official implementation at the start of the month.

“While a few people, just a few, aren’t completely sure, we’re there,” he said.

He revealed changes centred around the implementation of its new ATAS accreditation scheme had been agreed at the organisation’s annual general meeting on Friday.

“I can report the constitution of AFTA was changed to encapsulate the essence of the new ATAS accreditation scheme which is now mandatorily required for all travel agent members of AFTA going forward,” he said.

At the organisation’s annual general meeting on Friday, Mike Thompson was “unanimously” reelected as chair, with Helloworld chief executive Elizabeth Gaines and Flight Centre MD Graham Turner filling the vice chair roles, Westbury confirmed.

“AFTA remains focused, united and confident about our policies going forward.”
